Exhibition and conference “We Are Not Alone”: Legacies of Eugenics (12-13 March 2024)

In Belgrade, on March 12 and 13, 2024, the exhibition “We Are Not Alone”: Legacies of Eugenics, co-organized by the Scientific Society for the History of Health Culture, was opened in the Jewish Municipality of Belgrade and at the Faculty of Philosophy.

As part of the event, on March 13, 2024, a scientific conference was organized at the Faculty of Philosophy entitled Eugenics, public health policies, nationalism and populism in Southeast Europe (18th-21st century).

The following research topics were discussed at the conference:

  • The need for a new definition of eugenics in the context of efforts to advance and improve the human gene pool – dilemmas
  • The role of eugenics in unethical behavior in clinical trials
  • Eugenics and racial nationalism in Southeast Europe 1900-1945
  • Anti-Semitism and biopolitics
  • Contemporary populism and the rejection of scientific medicine
