A new volume of Acta Historiae Medicinae XLIV/2025/1 has been published. In this edition, biopolitical topics are covered with a special focus on headaches in the history of medicine, lovesickness and the authenticity of emotions in Plautus’ “Cistellaria”, Peter of Spain and the and the medicinal use of scallop shells, then on corporal punishment and torture inflicted by Toma Preljubović, as well as on infectious diseases, religion, superstition and the cult of St. Charalambos.
At the end of the volume there is an overview of the activities of Slavonian doctors in the field of sexology at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, as well as an overview of the book Madness, race and Insanity in a Jim Crow Asylum: Crownsville State Hospital.
