During 25th and 26th October 2011. international conference under title Challenging the shadow of the Iron curtain was held, organized by NBI, SSHHC (Scientific Society for the History of Health Culture) and Faculty of Philosophy University of Belgrade. Conceived as a result of cooperation with project Cities and Transnational Interaction (University of Tampere, Finland and Faculty of Architecture University of Belgrade), this conference shed new light on certain aspects of Cold War, especially on uniqueness of this epoch in Yugoslavia, Finland, Lithuania and Eastern bloc countries. Nikola Samardzic, Haris Dajc and Maja Vasiljevic were speakers representing NBI, while their research on aforementioned project was presented by Aleksandra Stupar (also member of NBI), Marijatta Hietala, Mervi Kaarninen, Audrone Januzyte, Sampsa Kaatja, Timo Vilen and Kirsi Ahonen. SSHHC was represented by Mirjana Roter Blagojevic and Marta Vukotic Lazar. Nenad Radic also took part as a speaker, as a participant on project Modernization of Western Balkans. First part of conference was held at Faculty of Philosophy, while second part took place at Faculty of Architecture and SSHHC premises. On the same day, tour of Belgrade, New Belgrade and Zemun was organized, which introduced guests to specificity of urban transformations that occurred during Cold War.
