“Alexander Mirković’s study examines an historical process that is unusual in its totality as well as in details. Coffee drinking became a regular everyday, social and solitary ritual in England, which later became a synonym for tea culture. Tea rituals were also adapted to British colonial, and later postmodern reality. But the route by which coffee have reached Western Europe and Atlantic from the shores of Red Sea was quick and successful compared to capacity of cultural adjustment in the second half of 17th century (…) Coffee had a significant role in social life of early modern England. It was a companion to important political and social processes, maturing of parliamentary democracy, opening of first egalitarian meeting places in everyday public life, growth and dynamics of great cities, itensity of all their activities.”
